After remodeling your home you’ll want to kick off your shoes and relax. And while you should do exactly that – don’t forget to tackle some post remodeling bits and bobs before it’s too late. We want to make sure you get the most of your remodel for the longest time, so here are our tips for maintaining your remodel.
Material Maintenance
In order to make your products and materials last the longest, you’ll need to talk to your contractor or supplier about how to care for your items. Natural elements (like wood and marble) need to be sealed periodically. The non-organic material also needs special TLC from time to time. Rain shower heads need to be deep cleaned about twice a year to remain functioning, and so does the oven. We want you to get the most bang for your buck so make sure you know how to properly care for your new products.
Warranties
After spending hundreds or thousands on new appliances, you’ll want to be sure they’re going to stick around for a while. Most new appliances come with warranties that have to be registered by a specific date. Make sure you take the time to register all of your warranties and we highly recommend considering extended warranties on big-ticket items.
Protect the Floors
Soft tile and wood are easily damaged. Make sure your flooring is sealed and protected. When bringing in furniture after a remodel the floor is often scratched. To avoid this, put felt pads on the bottom of heavy items. Be sure to swap out felt pads annually because they do wear down. Dogs are another source for damaged floors. Be sure to cut back your pet’s nails often to avoid scratch marks on the new hardwood. Lastly, consider being a shoeless home. As kids we hated this – but now that we’ve grown up and seen how much money goes into a remodel it makes sense! Shoes track in small rocks and dirt that become embedded into the floors. This will lead to discoloration and compromised texture. If you don’t want to go shoeless – we suggest door mats by all the entries.
